Journey through Advent in prayer, service, and meaning.
Did you know that the four Advent candles have specific meaning? Join us for our Advent pilgrimage retreat and visit four local churches over a two-week span. The evenings will begin with a prayerful reflection about the candle theme, followed by a service project that will help each church’s particular community. The last night we’ll meet at The Miraculous Medal Shrine, where we’ll use elements from the previous evenings to create unique advent wreaths.
Don’t just see the beauty of Advent this year. Experience it.
MONDAY, DECEMBER 6, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
St Vincent de Paul Church, 109 East Price Street, Phila., PA 19144
Hope: The Prophet’s Candle speaks to our need for receiving and spreading truth. Our first Advent pilgrimage takes us to St. Vincent’s where we will discuss how living our Christian truth, especially within the Vincentian charism, during Advent prepares us for the coming of the Prince of Peace. Our service will help heal community wounds inflicted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 9, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
St. Bridget’s Church, 3669 Midvale Avenue, Phila., PA 19129
Faith: The Bethlehem Candle reminds us of our calling, our mission to spread our faith as we ourselves develop and grow into it. At the St. Bridget’s pilgrimage we will reflect on faith that grows from hope as we serve St. Bridget’s faith formation program with our service project for the evening.
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
St. Francis de Sales Parish, 4625 Springfield Avenue, Phila., PA 19143
Joy: The Shepherd’s Candle causes us to rejoice in the good news and the hope that it brings to us! We’ll spend an evening at St. Francis de Sales Church to reflect on spreading that joy through pastoral care of our brothers and sisters, which we will engage in through our creation of gratitude kits to share.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The Miraculous Medal Shrine, 500 E. Chelten Ave., Phila., PA 19144
Peace: The Angel’s Candle envelopes the joy, faith, and hope of Advent in the serenity that comes from hearing God’s messengers and allowing them to guide you. On our last pilgrimage we come to the Shrine of the Miraculous Medal where we will reflect on community and accompaniment as instruments of peace and as modeled by Mary and create Advent-Pilgrimage wreaths to aid in prayer and service in the last weeks of Advent.
