Hope & Healing

Hope & Healing

By Deacon James Mahoney

“If you can?  Said Jesus, Everything is possible for one who believes.” –Mark 9:23

There is a great deal going on in the 9th Chapter of Mark.  It begins with the transfiguration.  Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a high mountain and before their eyes he is transformed.  Mark tells us, “Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.”

Jesus looks out from the Gospel.  Jesus looks out from the Altar.  Jesus through his gaze says to us, If you can?  Everything is possible for one who believes.  Jesus offers each of us a chance to be changed.  An opportunity to reach out to him with hope.  We hopefully climb the mountain as we prepare to come to Jesus as we say, “Lord, I am not worthy that you enter under my roof but only say the words and my soul will be healed”.  Our change is a gradual change.  Our change comes with the knowledge and hope in a God the LOVES us so much that he sent His only begotten son.  Our change allows Jesus to fix us where we are broken.  Our change even allows our merciful savior to use the broken pieces of our lives to help heal the wounds of someone else life.  We allow Jesus under our roofs so he can use his carpentry skills learned from Joseph to fix us, fix our lives.

Now, it time for us to spend a little time with Jesus!  To prayerfully approach HIM on the altar. “Lord, I am not worthy that you enter under my roof but only say the words and my soul will be healed”.  Let Jesus enter you through your prayers.  Let Jesus under your roof.  Jesus has a warranty on your life that he purchased on Calvary!   Let him into your life, Let him under your roof!  Jesus has work to do!

Our hope is in change because with change there is healing!     Jesus is looking out from the Gospel! Jesus is looking out from the Altar!  Jesus is saying, If you can have HOPE in me, than everything is possible through me, Jesus, including healing.

My brothers and sisters, this requires that we talk to him.  That’s called prayer. So, in the words of George Jones in Just a Little Talk with Jesus, let us:

“Have a little talk with Jesus, tell him all about our troubles
He will, Hear our fainted cry,  and he will answer by and by
And if you Feel a little prayer wheel turning, just know a little fire is burning
Have a little talk with Jesus makes it right…”
