Basilica Shrine Declared Pilgrimage Site for Jubilee Year 2025
The Basilica Shrine Named Pilgrimage Site for Jubilee Year 2025
In February 2022, Pope Francis proclaimed that 2025 would be a Jubilee Year with the theme Pilgrims of Hope. He said, “We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and far-sighted vision. The forthcoming Jubilee can contribute greatly to restoring a climate of hope and trust as a prelude to the renewal and rebirth that we so urgently desire…”
On December 24, 2024, the Jubilee Year officially began with Pope Francis opening the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter. The Jubilee Year, which began Christmas Eve. While the Jubilee Year occurs every 25 years, the theme Pilgrims of Hope encourages pilgrimages to the Vatican or to local Catholic cathedrals or shrines.
Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, Archbishop of the Diocese of Philadelphia, has designated The Basilica Shine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal as a Jubilee Pilgrimage site. Those visiting the Basilica Shrine during the Jubilee Year can obtain the Jubilee Indulgence if the general conditions are met.
Visiting the Basilica Shrine as Pilgrims of Hope offers opportunities for reconciliation, indulgences, and other events intended to strengthen and revive faith.
