A Marian Spring at the Basilica Shrine

Rejoice! The Lord is risen! As spring unfolds at The Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, the grounds come alive with the beauty of bulbs in bloom and the first buds on trees. In this season of new beginnings and fresh starts, we are delighted to offer a flourishing calendar of worship, fellowship, prayer, and community gatherings. Join us for A Marian Spring!

Divine Mercy Sunday

Join us this spring for a grace-filled celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday on April 12.

Jesus requested St. Faustina Kowalska establish the feast of Mercy Sunday. From the Diary of S. Faustina, 699, Jesus said:

“On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet.”

The Church also offers a plenary indulgence if the general conditions are met under the usual conditions. Come experience God’s mercy and the peace it brings.

We encourage you to spend time with us in this powerful devotion:

  • Confession begins at 1 p.m.
  • Holy Mass at 2 p.m.
  • Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3 p.m., sung with a cantor.
  • Benediction at 3:30 p.m.

De La Salle Chapel Choir Spring Concert

We warmly invite you to the De La Salle Chapel Choir annual spring concert at the Basilica Shrine on Saturday, April 25, at 1 p.m.

Music by composers Rutter, Stopford, Warner, Tin, Powell, Smallwood, and more will be featured in this year’s concert themed Hallowed Be. Special guests, the Hill Singers from Chestnut Hill College, will be joining the De La Salle Chapel Choir.

The Basilica Shrine Anniversary

Wednesday, April 29 marks the third anniversary of the elevation of the Miraculous Medal Shrine to minor basilica status. The Basilica Shrine is one of two basilicas in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the 92nd in the United States.

All who attend the 12:05 p.m. Mass on this date will receive a plenary indulgence if the general conditions are met.

Anointing of the Sick Mass

Our second quarterly Anointing of the Sick Mass will take place at the Basilica Shrine on Monday, May 4, at 12:05 p.m.

According to the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults, the Anointing of the Sick “is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived.”—CCC, no. 1514, citing SC, no. 73

Anointing of the Sick offers physical comfort, as well as spiritual strength, peace, and courage to those facing the challenges of illness or aging. Anyone who feels called to receive this grace, whether for themselves or in support of a loved one, is warmly invited to attend, as our faith community gathers in prayer, seeking Our Lady’s intercession and Our Lord’s healing presence.

Solemnity of St. Louise de Marillac

Please gather in celebration with us at the Basilica Shrine for the Solemnity of St. Louise de Marillac on Saturday, May 9, at the 12:05 p.m. Mass.

St. Louise de Marillac, together with St. Vincent de Paul, founded the Daughters of Charity in 1633 in Paris, France, to minister to the sick and the poor.

Celebrating Mothers

The Basilica Shrine will hold its Mother’s Day Mass on Sunday, May 10, at 9 a.m. We will celebrate all moms with a special blessing.

Bring the special mother in your life to take part and receive a blessing of grace, strength, and peace.

Ascension of Our Lord

Come celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord at the Basilica Shrine on Thursday, May 14, 12:05 p.m. Mass. The Ascension of Our Lord, which occurred 40 days after Easter, is a solemn feast that exalts the return of Jesus to His heavenly Father.

May Procession

On Monday, May 18, the Basilica Shrine community will gather in Marian devotion for our annual May ProcessionMay is the month dedicated to Mary, Mother of Jesus, by the Catholic Church. Let us gather to honor and give thanks to Our Lady for all her grace and blessings.

Bishop Esmilla’s warmth and joyful spirit continue to enrich our faith community, and we are grateful for his presence each month.
