The United States of Mary
On Monday, July 6, we begin our Summer Novena of Hope at The Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. The Summer Novena will continue each Monday through August 31, and offers a beautiful opportunity to pray and reflect in the quiet presence of Our Lady. The theme of this year’s Summer Novena of Hope is The United States of Mary, in honor of our nation’s 250th birthday.
Rector of the Basilica Shrine, Fr. John Kettelberger, CM, will be the first homilist of the Summer Novena. He will preach about Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
For generations, countless Catholic immigrants to the United States have turned to Mary in times of joy, sorrow, uncertainty, and need,” said Fr. Kettelberger. “While embarking on new beginnings, they brought with them the peace, comfort, and familiar traditions of Our Lady.”
Fr. Kettelberger continued, “Though they left behind loved ones and their homelands, these immigrants carried their devotion to Mary with them to the U.S., entrusting their hopes and struggles to her familiar, maternal care as they built new lives in a new land. In times of doubt and uncertainty, they found strength in their faith and in communities that honored Our Blessed Mother in their new parishes, knowing that Our Lady would guide and protect them.
“Our Blessed Mother never ceases to bring our prayers before her Son,” said Fr. Kettelberger.
We hope you will dedicate time in your schedule every Monday throughout July and August to spend time with Our Lady and her Son.
Dates: Nine Mondays from July 6–August 31
Times: Novena and Mass: 9 a.m., 12:05 p.m., 6:30 p.m.; Novena and Benediction: 2 p.m.
Confession: 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 6 p.m.

Plenary Indulgence: Individuals who attend the Summer Novena in person at the Basilica Shrine and fulfill ordinary requirements of the Church may receive a plenary indulgence on Monday, August 31, the ninth day of the Novena.
