Sunday, March 6: A Journey with Mary

Mary shows us how to persevere in suffering and hope. She reminds us that we needn’t shy away from difficulties or sorrow. And she’s not just showing us, she’s with us, helping us on our own journeys.

Presenter: Sister Liz Sjoberg, DC, came to appreciate and love the Virgin Mary during her discernment with the Daughters of Charity. Mary’s “Yes” to God’s loving plan became an important model for how to say “Yes” to God despite any fears and doubts. In particular, Mary’s appearance to St. Catherine Labouré was an inspiration to imitate her in being a healing and approachable presence.

Sunday, March 13: Mary at the Foot of the Cross

Mary stands close to Jesus in the hour of his deepest suffering. She teaches us how to be a merciful presence in the face of hardships and sorrow.

Presenter: Father Tim Lyons, CM, has been nurtured in the love of the Blessed Mother and devotion to the Miraculous Medal since his childhood in Germantown. In recent years, his relationship with Mary has deepened through the celebration of the Liturgy and serving at the Shrine. For Father Tim, our Blessed Mother is the preeminent expression of the Church’s compassion. Hail holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!

Sunday, March 20: Mary’s ‘Yes”

Join us as we explore the Yes’s we are called to give in our lives and as we turn to Mary, our model and guide. 

Presenter: Dr. Julie Burkey – Having grown up in the Byzantine Rite Catholic tradition, my devotion to Mary was fostered at a young age. Taking part in numerous processions that honored Mary as “Theotokos,” Mother of God, I had an early appreciation of her “Yes” to God’s plan for her life. This devotion has been strengthened through the years, certainly by a visit many years ago to the Chapel of the Miraculous Medal in Paris, the very place of Mary’s appearances to St. Catherine of Labouré. I am blessed to recall the wonder and awe of that experience at the CAMM Shrine in Philadelphia, such a beautiful and holy place.

Sunday, March 27: Walking with Mary and the Suffering of our World

Mary follows Christ, and she does it with a heavy heart. She carries our world’s suffering with her, and we are called to walk as she does.

Presenter: Sister Mary Scullion, RSM, has been involved in service work and advocacy for homeless and mentally ill persons since 1978. In 1989, Sister Mary and Joan Dawson McConnon co-founded Project HOME, a nationally recognized organization that provides supportive housing, employment, education and health care to enable chronically homeless and low-income persons to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty. Under their leadership, Project HOME has grown from an emergency winter shelter to 900 units of housing, three social enterprises, the Honickman Learning Center Comcast Technology Lab, which is a catalyst for education and employment; and the Steven Klein Wellness Center. She was named by Time magazine as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” in 2009, alongside Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.
