Bishop Esmilla Attends Our Lady of FIAT Shrine 5th Year Celebration

Bishop Esmilla Attends Our Lady of FIAT Shrine 5th Year Celebration

On July 13, 2024, the Most Reverend Efren V. Esmilla, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, helped commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Our Lady of FIAT (Filipinos in America Today) Shrine at the Basilica Shrine at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. More than 260 people were in attendance for the praying of the Rosary followed by Holy Mass.

During Mass, Bishop Esmilla announced that he will return regularly to celebrate Mass at the Basilica Shrine beginning Monday, August 12, at 12:05 p.m immediately following the Summer Novena of Hope. Please join us in warmly welcoming Bishop Esmilla.

“The celebration of the fifth anniversary with the FIAT was one of the most significant Masses I’ve ever attended here at the Basilica Shrine of the Miraculous Medal. It showed the fervor, togetherness, and solidarity of the Filipino population. We exhibited our love and devotion to Our Lady of the Immaculate with beautiful music (thank you to the Collegeville Choir) and camaraderie. Once again, we became one family. My greatest appreciation to all who were instrumental in bringing about this wonderful gathering. Bishop Efren, bless you for the guidance and strength you’ve given us. May you live happily, peacefully for a very long time.” -Congregant

The Our Lady of FIAT Shrine was built through collaboration and partnership between the Basilica Shrine and the local Filipino community to provide a cultural sanctuary for worship, devotion, and prayer. It was built in thanksgiving to Mary for her “Yes” to God and her continued intercessions for all of us.

Bishop Esmilla explains his strong connection to the Basilica Shrine: “My parents were so involved in promoting the devotion to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.”

Bishop Esmilla is the Regional Bishop of the Philadelphia Region overseeing the Ministry of Evangelization, and he serves as pastor of Saint James the Great parish in Elkins Park and Saint Martin of Tours in Philadelphia.
