Candles are symbolic prayer offerings to remember a deceased love one, request a special intention, or commemorate an event. Vigil candles at the Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal represent a spiritual pilgrimage or prayer devotion through the intercession of Mary and her Miraculous Medal.

The Basilica Shrine offers various locations for you to choose where you would like to light a vigil candle in both the Upper and Lower Shrines as indicated below.

The Basilica Shrine also offers the opportunity to light its sanctuary candle, which burns next to the Tabernacle on the main altar. Its flame signifies the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. We invite you to light this enduring symbol of faith during the Jubilee Year 2025.
