Rosary Walk Groundbreaking Ceremony

Rosary Walk at The Miraculous Medal ShrineOn Monday, October 25, after the 12:05 Mass, The Miraculous Medal Shrine held a groundbreaking ceremony to usher in the next chapter of their commitment to Our Lady. This initiative, Vincent’s Rosary Walk, commemorates the greatest form of Marian prayer, the Rosary. Many gathered for the ceremony in which Mary Jo Timlin-Hoag, CEO of CAMM, and Fr. Timothy Lyons, CM, Shrine Director, addressed the group outlining the project and blessing the ground. The event had special significance because they broke ground with the ceremonial shovel that Fr. Joseph A. Skelly, CAMM’s founder, used almost 95 years ago to launch the construction of what is now the Shrine. Click here to watch the news coverage of the event.

Centerpiece: Our Lady of Knock Shrine

The centerpiece of Vincent’s Rosary Walk is Our Lady of Knock Shrine, which will proudly honor the Irish community’s vital contributions to Germantown and the many neighborhoods of Philadelphia.

FAQ

What is it?
At the Central Association of the Miraculous Medal, we are creating an outdoor sanctuary for prayer, meditation and green space. Nestled in the heart of historic Philadelphia, The Shrine’s outdoor sanctuary will provide a prayerful oasis for devotees and preservation of green space for neighborhood residents to promote their spiritual, physical and mental health. This green space will include a Rosary Walk, Mediation Garden, Marian Garden for Children and Our Lady of Knock Shrine designed for prayer, solitude and public sanctuary.

When will it be completed?
This project will be constructed in phases. Phase I, Vincent’s Rosary Walk broke ground on October 25, 2021. The Rosary Walk is scheduled to be finished by Thanksgiving. Phase II, construction of the Grotto, the carving of the statue of Our Lady, and the mosaic will begin in the spring of 2022.  Upon completion of the Grotto in late summer, Phase III, installation of the mosaic and the statue of Mary will begin. We anticipate official opening of the space in October 2022.

How can I participate?
We are accepting donations of any amount via our website. If you are interested in joining others in naming different aspects in memory of a loved one or to honor your family, please speak with the Institutional Advancement team.

What will it be used for?
In addition to expanding the spiritual experience for members of Mary’s Miraculous Medal Family, the Meditation Garden will serve as an outdoor sanctuary and green space for devotees and the Children’s Garden will provide an educational opportunity to teach the next generations of Catholics and Marian devotees to learn to pray the rosary and love the story of the miraculous medal.

How will we maintain it in perpetuity?
After the construction costs are covered, the money raised will be placed in an endowment fund. The interest from the endowment will be used to pay for annual maintenance and upkeep.

Who makes decisions? Who has oversight?
Campaign committee, Vincentians and the Leadership of Central Association of the Miraculous Medal.

How long to pay off pledges?
Your pledge commitment can be paid in many different ways including spacing out payments over three years.
