Building Our Lady of Knock Shrine
On the evening of the August 21, 1879, the Blessed Mother, St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist appeared to residents of a poor rural village in Ireland. This visit revitalized their faith and brought them comfort from the disease and starvation they had been suffering due to the Potato Famine.
Drawing on this deep connection of Irish devotion to Our Lady, the Central Association of the Miraculous Medal is collaborating with regional Irish community leaders to construct a shrine at the Miraculous Medal Shrine’s Philadelphia location to honor Our Lady of Knock. In building the shrine, they hope to bring today’s devotees together in hope, celebrating culture and faith. The outdoor shrine will serve as a welcoming pilgrimage site celebrating faith and culture.
